Prohibited Sponsorship

Prohibited sponsorship is basically the sponsorship denial of some products. Prohibited meaning forbidden by law, and sponsorship meaning a person or an organization that pays for or plans and carries out a project or activity ; especially : one that pays the cost of a radio or television program usually in return for advertising time during its course (Yes I googled that definition).

Prohibited sponsorship is used on products such as cigarettes, any body whose objects are wholly or mainly of a political issue,
any person whose business consists wholly or mainly in the manufacture or supply of pharmaceutical products only available on prescription. I see their reasoning behind the tobacco and political restrictions, but not about the pharmaceutical restriction.

I agree with prohibited sponsorship for the most part, but I think that there are more things that could be added in, such as alcohol. You always see beer commercials, even though they count for most of the accidents on the road, yet you dont see cigarette commercials. The political restriction is probably good, there would be major competition for sponsorships with large, well knowns companies. I think that they should keep prohibited sponsorship, but maybe modify it a bit. First of all, add in alcohol, and give tobacco and the alcohol industries a chance to get sponsored, but at a really high cost, or something like that.

Project reflections

Well we are supposed to write a blog were we reflect on our "Rock On!" project.
Well at first I thought it was going to be pretty tedious, and boring. I was right, well partially. It WAS tedious, we didnt really get a day where we didnt have to work all day. Except for today, since we are done, all I have to do is write this blog.
Anyways, at times the project got a bit frustrating, only because we couldnt find certain things. -cough- Local bands -cough-. That took a while to do, we couldnt find local bands from every city, so maybe 1 or 2 were made up...
The work was pretty evenly split up, I did most of the graphic work though, the only thing I didnt do graphic wise was the cd cover, and tour bus. Oh, and the VIP/Backstage pass. OH AND, the t-shirt design, but I did do the logo, and poster + other stuff. =[. My logo was used in about every other graphic though.
In the end it was a good experience, I guess. I dont like working in groups though, because a lot of times people (including me) just dont want to do work, and you have to suck it up and do the work they should be doing (Or I should be doing). Oh well. I better get used to it now I guess, people work together in the real world all the time. I guess thats what I learned.

Our target market was mostly teens. We were sponsored by Gatorade, and a lot of high school kids drink that stuff. Even smaller kids...
I dont even think we used the marketing mix, or the 7 key functions of marketing...at least not intentionally. We did use price, when pricing our tickets, location not so much. I suppose being sponsored is a type of advertisement. Distribution....nope, that wasnt used...at least I dont think so. We did use product though, not referring to the band, but the cd case, t-shirt, and maybe the tickets as well.

"Rock On!" project or something.

About 1 or 2 week(s) ago, our class started a project called "Rock On!" or something. Well, the project is to create a fictional band, and go through the steps that regular bands probably do. We had to create a logo, make-up music titles, hit songs, album names, member bios, etc. So far it hasnt been hard really, I think the only hard part was typing up the bio. It looks like the next set of assignments to come will be a bit more challenging though. Honestly Im not really trying on this project, I need some type of incentive, some sort of prize, maybe then Id try a bit harder, MAYBE even do this at home.

Marketing Methods

Well so far we have only been over 4 key marketing functions. Those would be: Product/Service Management, Selling, Distribution, and Focus Groups. Out of all the activities we did for each, I would have to say that the Focus Group activity was my favorite, simply because we got to drink Coke. Well, Coke, Pepsi, and cheap store brand cola. I also think that the Focus Group has been the most effective so far, because it takes the input from people who have tried their product, and they change their product based on the responses, hopefully getting a better reaction after the changed have been made.

Hurricane Ike

Well the past 10 days have been pretty normal for me. Of course the power was out, but my brother had bought a generator about the first day the lights went out. I wasnt in the city when the power went out though, me and some of my family went to Fort Worth Dallas, and stayed at a Howard Johnson late Friday night. We stayed there till the morning on Sunday.
When we got home, there was a loud noise in the garage, and it turned out to be the generator I mentioned. Since we had the generator we were able to plug in some fans, so we werent as hot as some of the other people without power. We also had some of the luxuries people were probably aching for during the power outage, T.V, Computer, etc. I guess were we lucky my brother bought it.
The only thing that sucked, well not for me, was getting gas for the generator, apparently there was a 30~1hour wait in line before you actually got to the pump, on top of that the gas stations that were actually open and had gas were not so close by. The generator lasts a while though. If its full it lasts about 8 hours. Luckily our house wasnt damaged at all, a few limbs from trees fell here and there, but nothing major.

The only good thing I guess would be that I was able to read my book for English that I was supposed to read for the summer. Also no school for a little over a week, got to catch some Z's as if it was some random vacation. So thanks Ike. =]
